Chapter 22: Hammet's Rescue

A voluntary part of your journey, but to get it over will help you a lot in the end! Therefore it's an integral part of this walkthrough. You surely remember that Hammet, Ivan's Master, has been kidnapped by brigands from Lunpa. With Babi's Cloak Ball you now have the means to make a rescue out of Lunpa possible. As you can't get to Lunpa by sea you'll have to find a path by land. From Tolbi on go southwest until you reach the Gondowan Cave.

The Gondowan Cave.

This cave serves as a connection of the Angara and Gondowan continents. After only a few steps the path will already fork. Both ways will lead you to your destination, but for the time being the right one's still a dead end. Take the left path and use Lift in the next area to come further. The now following room contains a treasure chest on each side of the river, in one of them you can find an Apple, in the other one a Lucky Medal. When you've taken them let's go to the final area.

Use the 'Lift'! Isaac got an Apple.

Here now go to the boulder and Move it into the water, which will not only give you free way here, but will also create a sort of connection to which you would've come had you taken the right path earlier. Proceed to the stone pillar and move it into the water so that it sinks down. Jump over the gap and thus reach the cave's exit.

Move this boulder... ...and this pillar.

You're now on the World Map again, to be exact in the direct south of Kalay! From here on head in northwards direction, cross the repaired bridge to Vault and continue farther north until you reach the Lunpa village.

Shortly before Lunpa.

As one might expect one unfortunately won't grant you entry in here... Access denied! But you can still get into Lunpa, so don't worry. Near the village there's the West Lunpa Cave, a tunnel leading into the village. In the midst of this cave there's a half-open door which can't be mechanically moved anymore. Exploit the puddle beneath it though and use Frost. The ice pillar will lift the gate so that you can pass it. You'll soon find yourselves inside Lunpa!

No entry. Freezing the puddle under the gate.

Because there's nothing special to see in this settlement at the moment, not even the shops sell anything currently, you can leave the straight to the north already to reach the Lunpa Fortress, where Hammet is held hostage. Position yourselves in the left wall's shadow and use Cloak there, it'll render you invisible. That way sneak past the guards, but always stay in the shadows! The fortress gates lie directly in front of you.

The 'Cloak' turns you invisible. Sneaked past!

After the short entrance are you'll be standing in the main hall of the fortress. Before you lies a room, albeit you can only find a few of the fortress' inhabitants in it. It should be noted that they belong to the rare kind of people in the fortress to whom you can openly show yourselves – near the guards you'll always have to be invisible! Go back to the main hall, use Cloak and sneak your way to the northeastern passge. Remaining invisible, walk through the next room in a semicircle. In a room by the northern wall there's a barrel with a Vial, by the way.

Yeah, yeah, keep bragging. Walking in the shadows. More shadowy walking.

In the following area you'll have to be even more careful than before – as the patrolling guard here's not standing still, but moving! The path continues in the south, but you should wait until it's gone to the other end of the room and quickly hurry then! You're now in the main hall again. Camouflaged take the stairs in the south. In the next room you'll have to go north. The only way to get further here is to use a gap in the wall as refuge to escape the two quick guards' sight before proceeding.

You'll have to get past the patrol. The main hall again. Keep yourselves hidden!

The next room can be run through, more precisily to the northeastern entrance. Although you'll be spotted by three bandits here, they're not going to scream alarm – because they're quite sure they can give you a good beating themselves – until you convince them of the opposite. Proceed to the next area. Also here you'll have to deal with an overly keen guard atfer only a few steps.

Before the three bandits. But they'll get the bruises! The next guard.

By the way, the person you've just defeated was guarding the room in which Donpa resides, the father of the current ruler Dodonpa who's responsible for Hammet's kidnapping. He's deeply appalled and weakened by his son's behaviour and has to stay in bed out of powerlessness. He's been waiting for warriors like you who are able to punish his son for his injustices. But let the elder man be and take the southern door before his room. Just watch out for the guard and sneak past him when the time's right.

Donpa's angry about his son. Before the key.

In this room you'll find what will give you access to all further ways in this fortress – the Cell Key with which you can unlock any door in the fortress. You can't take a hold of it with your hands, but well with the Catch psynergy! Once you have it you can unlock both doors in this room right away. And take out the guard along the way.

Catch the key! Another brigand.

Through the western exit here you'd come back to some of the former passages and a living room, thus take the stairs in the east. The stairs leading you to the basement of the fortress is right next to you now, but I'd recommend to do something else beforehand. Go through the door and to the southeastern exit, then you'll be back in the main hall again. Go further through a few rooms like you did earlier until you're again by the wandering patrol. Here hurry to the door in the wast, unlock it and enter the room before you. In the chests here you can find 100 coins, an Elixir, a Lucky Medal as well as the great Mythril Circlet. Leave this true treasure room, go back to the room in which you've found the key and enter the fortress' basement.

The stairs here will lead you further. Before the treasure room. Isaac got a Mythril Circlet.

The basement's illuminated and completely without guards, so feel free to have a short break now! Sweep the shrub at the wall away with Whirlwind, use your Reveal and flip the switch that appears to open the door. Go up the northeastern stairs in the following room and whirl the next shrub away. You'll then come to three prisons, in one of them you can find some Power Bread inside a chest.

Isaac flipped the switch. A little whirling! Isaac got some Power Bread.

As soon as you're out of the prisons again you'll notice a big wooden crate in a northern corner here. Move it towards the southern notch in the ground so that it falls down and you can come to the other side of the cliffs over it. It'll lead you to another shrubbery (but no Knights of Ni). Get rid of it as well and use the power to reveal to make the door next to it open. It'll lead you straight into Hammet's cell!

The crate has to be moved like this. The next swtich.

After a few steps you'll already stand before him. At first he's completely suprised to see Ivan, his servant, having come this far solely because he wanted to rescue him. He knows that Ivan's journey has begun when he sees his friends. The reunion won't last too long, though, as also Dodonpa will appear now! The man of the house is obviosuly not very amused about your disturbance and would like you to say hello to his cute new pet.

Ivan came to save. Dodonpa's caught you. Monster fodder?
Toadonpa
Toadonpa Toadonpa appeared! HP: 2800
Toadonpa has got several characteristics that make it especially dangerous in battle. Those aren't only its strong attack, but its high HP (and regeneration of 80 per round respectively) as well. But luckily there are also some more pleasant news, too: He'll only attack once a turn and is, like most animals, vulnerable to sleep. This should already compose your strategy: Use Ivan's Sleep to simply bring this whopper down! Instantly attack with your weapons. By the way, the Assassin Blade is particularly recommended here, as it is able to slay this beast in a single artful stroke. The toad's single worst attack is its Sticky Poison, so better have a few antidotes or Mia at hand when they're needed. Whatever, this easy method is a relatively safe one and should lead you to victory quite soon. For it you'll receive 999 experience points, 3200 coins as well as a Psy Crystal.

After the battle you'll see that Dodonpa's buried beneath the monster all of a sudden. That's because Dodonpa tried to secretly sneak past you for an ambush behind your back... Yet still he wants you to free him from the heavy cadaver. After some heavy thinking the heroes agree, but more would be too much. Although Dodonpa suffers from injuries he has to be punished for his misdeeds. The heroes consider locking him up here. Then the daddy arrives...

Dodonpa's dirty tricks... The heroes move the toad away. A punk indeed

He, now back to strength again, harshly condemns his son and the deeds he's done. He doesn't have any problem seeing his son being punished. He apologises to Master Hammet and is very relieved when he forgives him. He asks you to sneak out of the fortress the way you came in as he's no influence on some of Dodonpa's henchmen. He's spread rumours about intruders here, to distract most of the present thieves and have them elsewhere. Still the sly master thief, that Dodonpa! You'll come together along with Hammet. Do thereupon like Dodonpa said and sneak back into the village.

Dodonpa has to pay. Go as long as you still can!

A note before the trip back: The shops in Lunpa have opened again! Buy lots of the powerful things for sale here, especially the artefacts are worth a look! When you have everything, leave Lunpa through the already familiar cave.

In the trading house of Lunpa.

Simply pull the lever for the gate here and proceed. Quite soon you'll notice a shadwy figure hiding from you here – it's Bunza, a merchant from Kalay! He came to this place to sell his goods, but the guards didn't let him in. When rumours about intruders spread around in the fortress he seeked shelter in here, and then he met you! He can help you with your escape because he's with a horse carriage here. You may gladly accept the free carriage ride to Kalay!

Banzai! Bunza's glad about Hammet's rescue. A wagon's standing ready for you!

Bunza will thereupon take you to a secret passage near Kalay leading directly into the palace. Hammet's reason for that is because he doesn't want to be spotted by potential henchmen of Dodonpa's in Kalay. Ivan and the others can't get into the palace that way as strangers coming out of the palace would raise suspicion rather sooner than later. After Hammet's safe Bunza will ride you back to the town.

You'll have to go through town! Arrived at the town of Kalay.

But finally back in Kalay you can go visit Hammet and Layana in their palace! The two are already happy reunited in the palace. Even though Layana's startled about your recklessness as far as Hammet goes, but still she's naturally most thankful for his resue. Both though now remind you to concentrate again on your actual mission, the elemental lighthouses. Hammet still remembers the former Jupiter Adept's prophecy and tells Ivan to take the Shaman's Rod with him to Hesperia, that place is the continent west of Angara. Unfortunately he as well can't give you any further advice for your journey! Ivan and his friends will then leave them be to let them organise the return to carefree normality in Kalay.

You've had the perfect timing. Layana's reunited! The prophecy!

But your return to the palace shall not be without any material thanks! The head of the palace has opened the door to the secret underground passages for you. Run the room west of him, then go down the stairs in front of you. Just anothe stairs then and you've reached them! Here in the first room you can find chests containing a Sleep Bomb, a Lucky Medal, a Potion as well as 200 coins. Now block the waterflow with the one statue and you'll be able to reach a chest with the mighty Spirit Gloves after you've frozen a puddle. Now run further northwards. In the next room you'll have to go northwestwards, furthermore go upstairs in the following chamber. Here inside the mountain you'll come to a chest with an Apple on top of that, the second one in this chapter already! Southwards you'll come to the secret entrance that Hammet had used earlier.

Die Passage ist für euch offen! Isaac got Spirit Gloves. Isaac got an Apple.

Well, I guess this already was it for this chapter! Or not? One thing left for all who are truly hardcore! Now that Hammet's not with you anymore you can go back into the Lunpa Fortress. Head to the room in which once Donpa lay in bed. Actually he's still doing that, talk to him. Because you've helped him with the whole Dodonpa thing he'd like to give you a little something as reward. The little creature he'd like to hand over to you will turn out as being a Mercury Djinni! Talk to the little spirit and "Tonic" will gladly want to join your care.

Donpa has a little gift for you. Tonic joined Garet!

Promised, this has already been everything! Sneak out of the fortress once more and leave Lunpa. Head to Kalay and afterwards from there on over the Gondowan Passage to Tolbi. After this long march the journey will finally go on now from here!
