At what level do my characters learn a new psynergy?
New psynergies can be learnt through equipping of some certain items, too! As those are entirely unique, only one character is able to possess its very psynergy at a time, but at least everyone's able to do so. Some of them you'll find hidden, whilst others you'll find as your journey progresses. Watch out, as some are even required for the game's plot!

The Golden Sun series belongs to the rather rare kind of RPGs in which you can really influence your environment through magic. That means moving things, changing them, even reading minds is possible! I think that's truly an upside of the game, a really cool one. In the following a list of psynergies that you can use on the World Map for this purpose (except for healing spells):
![]() |
Avoid , 5 PP, Isaac, Garet (through class)This psynergy keeps the enemies at bay. Whenever you don't want to have annoying battles, you can avoid them through casting it. But be careful, it's only affecting monsters which have already gotten rather weak compared to you! All the other ones you'll still have to fight. |
![]() |
Carry , 2 PP, everyone (through item)'Carry' is like a combination of 'Move' and 'Lift': first you can lift up an item through it, then you'll be able to move it to any place, still in the air. You're going to need it for some stone blocks later in the game. |
![]() |
Catch , 1 PP, everyone (through item)Some smaller things, such as keys or nuts hanging in the trees, can be acquired through the 'Catch' psynergy. For this you'll have to have a certain distance to them and face them, though. The "Catch Beads" teach it to you. |
![]() |
Cloak , 1 PP, everyone (through item)If you ever wanted to just hide from all views in an instant, simply go to a shadowy place and cast this psynergy. You'll remain invisible as long as you're in the shadows and not turn visible again by choice. You'll even remain in this state if you talk to someone! This is especially of use for you in the Lunpa Fortress. |
![]() |
Douse , 5 PP, everyone (through class / item)One of the two psynergy which you'll not only be able to get by equipping an item, the "Douse Drop" in this case, but as a normal psynergy, too. Therefore several characters can possess this power at a time... Which is actually unnecessaey, but you'll inevitably get this item after being victorious over the Killer Ape in the Kolima Forest anyway. |
![]() |
Force , 4 PP, everyone (through item)This one you'll learn through the "Orb of Force", which can be obtained at the bottom of the Fuchin Falls. It releases a kind of ray made of spiritual energy, which careers along your viewing direction. This way the tree stumps in the Mogall Forest can get a little "edited". Pay attention to the excellent auto-aim! *g* |
![]() |
Frost , 5 PP, everyone (through class / item)The second psynergy available through both an item and class change. And this one, the Frost Jewel, you cannot avoid either, you'll receive it after the first battle with one Altin's Hydros Statues. |
![]() |
Growth , 3 PP, Isaac + Garet (through class)Every once in a while you'll find some small plants in the surface which are slightly waving with the wind. Those you can let spring up as a huge plant, which you then can climb up. Sometimes you'll be able to reach higher areas this way. |
![]() |
Halt , 2 PP, everyone (through item)'Halt' can turn moving beings into immovable ones, i.e. paralyse them, as long as you don't leave the current area. It can even be used on NPCs! Although you don't actually have to use it on the elderly people, as shown in the picture. :-) |
![]() |
Lift , 2 PP, everyone (through item)Giant rocks can be elevated into the air through 'Lift'. This was it already! You'll learn this psynergy by equipping the "Lifting Gem". |
![]() |
Mind Read , 1 PP, IvanWith you'll be able to find out what exactly's going on in the people's minds! Hasn't anyone ever asked themselves that already? Quite probably you'll get some useful information by this, but apart from this the psynergy's really only 'just for fun'. The others won't notice (and therefore not hold something against you), should you browse through their thoughts. |
![]() |
Move , 2 PP, Isaac + GaretIs required to move statues, stone pillars or rocks. Stand just a step at most in front of the object which you want to move away and face it. Now cast 'Move' – a hand will now grab the object. Maneuvre it into any direction (should some not be blocked already) through the control pad. In the game you'll need the Move psynergy everytime your hands cannot reach the object you wish to move . |
![]() |
Ply , 4 PP, everyone (through class)"Wait, that's a healing spell!" Absolutely right, but 'Ply' does serve another purpose as well: certain Goddess statues may grant you their aid if you're "worshipping" them with this psynergy. :-) |
![]() |
Reveal , 1 PP, IvanIvan acquires this psynergy after the first meeting with Master Hama, where she teaches it to him. With it you'll be able to see hidden and veiled things. That's something really useful: hidden switches turn visible, oases appear, and if a container holds an item it will start to blink as it gets "revealed". And even more can be revealed! Definetely on of the most useful spells in this game for me. |
![]() |
Retreat , 6 PP, IsaacActually it doesn't really change your environment, but YOU yourself! By changing your position from the current one to the entrance of the cave or location in the wilderness which you're currently exploring. Not usable in towns and on the World Map! |
![]() |
Whirlwind / Gale , 5 PP, Isaac / Garet / Ivan (through class)To clear the way or find hidden things, some of the bushes, shrubs and grass can simply be blown away with a 'Whirlwind'. Those plants do have more striking colours than their environment. Now find some hidden entrances this way! Furthermore, the Ninja class features the 'Gale' psynergy – the very same spell as Whirlwind, but with a different name. |
